BELGRADE - Serbian flagship carrier Air Serbia on Thursday marks the tenth anniversary of launching operations under a new name and with a new visual identity - in its first decade, it carried more than 25 mln passengers and operated more than 310,000 flights.
"The company’s operations were completely transformed. The number of destinations in its network doubled, and now Air Serbia operates passenger and cargo flights to over 80 scheduled and charter destinations in Europe, the Mediterranean, North America, Asia, and Africa," the airline said in a statement.
"Three long-haul destinations were added - New York, Tianjin, and Chicago. The company’s fleet was completely renewed and currently consists of two wide-body Airbus A330-220, 13 narrow-body aircraft from the Airbus A320 family, and seven turboprop ATR aircraft for regional flights. During the week in which it marks its anniversary, Air Serbia exceeded the number of 3.5 mln passengers carried since the start of the year, and the record of 4 mln passengers carried in a single year could be broken by the end of 2023, which is more than triple compared to the last year before Air Serbia was launched. In the past decade, Serbia’s national carrier performed over 310,000 flights in total and carried over 25 mln passengers."
"The past 10 years have helped us become stronger and better prepared for the future. We are entering a new decade of operations as a regional leader. With the youngest fleet in the region, over 1,400 employees and a clearly defined sustainable development strategy, we are moving forward at an even faster pace, ready to adapt to any change in the market, operate profitably and constantly upgrade our service in the interest of our passengers. I want to thank all our passengers who placed their trust in us over the past 10 years. We hope that in the future, we will continue to create memories together,” Air Serbia CEO Jiri Marek said.
In 2023, Air Serbia has broken all records in terms of operated flights and destinations in its network, the company said.
"Since the start of the year, the national airline has launched 22 new destinations and performed over 36,000 flights. Preliminary financial results show that in the first half of the year, the company made a profit of 22.4 mln euros, which is almost the same as the profit for the entire 2022," it also said.
