ATHENS - Secretary General at the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dusan Kozarev met with his Greek counterpart Maira Myrogianni in Athens on Monday.

The parties said they were pleased with the high level of overall relations and cooperation between the two countries, accompanied by friendly ties and historical closeness between the Serbs and Greeks, the Serbian MFA said in a statement.

Kozarev confirmed Serbia's interest in further stepping up of high- and top-level political dialogue, as well as a determination to continue to develop cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.

He said he was confident the strengthening of the ties between the two MFAs and their general secretariats would be promoted to a significant extent by a memorandum of understanding and cooperation signed during Serbian FM Marko Djuric's visit to Athens in December 2024.

He stressed that Serbia highly appreciated Greece's position of non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo, and noted that Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija were in a difficult situation due to repression and unilateral actions by the Kurti regime.

Commenting on the situation in the region, with emphasis on Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kozarev said Serbia would continue its constructive approach with a view to preserving peace in the Balkans.

"At the same time, we will continue to provide strong support to our people in Republika Srpska, as well as to its institutions," Kozarev said.

It was confirmed at the meeting that Greece would continue to provide unreserved support to Serbia on its path to full-fledged EU membership.

Kozarev said he was pleased Greece had officially confirmed its participation in specialised EXPO 2027, to be hosted by Belgrade.
