Vucic, Berset discuss current situation in Serbia

TIRANA - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met with Council of Europe (CoE) Secretary General Alain Berset in Tirana on Friday to discuss the current situation in Serbia, as well as implementation of reform processes and further advancement of democratic standards.

In a post on his buducnostsrbijeav Instagram account, Vucic wrote that, on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit, he and Berset had also discussed protection of national minorities.

"Serbia remains committed to advancement of democratic standards. We devote special attention to Council of Europe instruments for protection of national minorities, as well as to respect for the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights."

Vucic thanked Berset for his readiness for continued dialogue in the spirit of mutual respect.

"Serbia remains committed to preservation of peace and advancement of stability, which is the key precondition for overall progress in the region," Vucic noted.

Earlier, Vucic also met with Polish PM Donald Tusk and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola to discuss the key challenges for Europe and the situation in the Western Balkans.

They also discussed the need for preserving peace in a time of rising global tensions.

"We exchanged views on the situation in the Western Balkan region and the importance of a European perspective based on dialogue, respect and a realistic assessment of the situation on the ground," Vucic posted, adding that Serbia was ready to work on accelerating its EU path with sincere support from European partners.
