Novi Sad city assembly votes in favour of memorial to railway station tragedy victims

NOVI SAD - The Novi Sad City Assembly voted on Thursday in favour of an initiative by Mayor Zarko Micin to erect a memorial to the victims of the November 1 deadly overhang collapse at the city's railway station.

Forty-four of 56 assembly members in attendance voted for the initiative, 12 did not take part in the vote and there were no abstentions or votes against.

Micin said he believed his duty and obligation was to ensure the victims were never forgotten and that erecting a permanent memorial would show that they would be remembered by the whole community.

He said the site of the memorial would be a place of remembrance, as well as a "warning that things should be done differently."
