BELGRADE - Serbian PM Djuro Macut met on Monday in Belgrade with OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu to discuss continued cooperation in the fields of rule of law, electoral reforms, media freedoms, human rights and strengthening of democratic institutions.

"Macut stressed that Serbia is committed to comprehensive reforms across society, the rule of law, and the improvement of electoral and media legislation, in accordance with the recommendations of international partners and in the interest of citizens," a government statement said.

"The Prime Minister underlined that the role of the OSCE in the region is very important for the Government of Serbia and that Belgrade will continue to cooperate with the OSCE Mission in the future, as a reliable and consistent partner.

The interlocutors also discussed the implementation of recommendations from the ODIHR and the Venice Commission, as well as the protection of the safety of journalists and the improvement of media freedoms.

The Prime Minister said that Serbia is ready to contribute to the work of this organisation in the future.

Sinirlioglu stressed the importance of the many years of cooperation with Serbia and agreed that there is room for its improvement, bearing in mind, as he said, the country’s key role for the well-being of the region," the statement also said.
