BELGRADE - Serbian PM Djuro Macut met with Justice Minister Nenad Vujic and his aides on Wednesday to discuss Ministry of Justice activities aimed at enhancing the work of the judiciary and implementation of judicial reforms, improvement of rule of law and strengthening of judicial independence.
Macut noted that rule of law was one of the key pillars of a democratic society as well as his government's priority as part of the EU integration process, and that the Serbian government remained committed to accomplishing reform goals and enhancing the legal order as a foundation of stability, justice and the country's European future.
He noted that the government would continue to monitor and support all processes contributing to greater protection for citizens, a balance between rights and obligations, as well as to safeguarding the fundamental values of a democratic society, in keeping with European standards and Venice Commission recommendations.

Macut highlighted the significance of digitalisation projects, most notably, development of integrated information systems for the judiciary, advancement of electronic communication among institutions, data security and modernisation of the administration's work to make it more accessible to citizens.
The meeting addressed planned legislative initiatives aimed at more efficient work of judicial authorities, strengthening of rule of law and accessibility to all citizens.
Vujic laid out plans regarding digitalisation of the judiciary, enhancing data security and modernisation of work.
He noted that 12 new laws currently under preparation, including amendments to a law on preventing domestic violence and a law on minors, would help to strengthen the citizens' trust in the judicial system and make the fight against corruption more efficient.
