Brnabic: Excellent meeting with Metsola, we discussed Serbia's EU integration

BRUSSELS - Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic said on Friday in Brussels she had had an excellent and open meeting with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola about cooperation between the Serbian parliament and the EP, as well as about Serbia's further EU integration.

Speaking to Serbian reporters in Brussels, Brnabic said the Serbian Mission to the EU would host a discussion later in the day with all those who were interested in hearing what the situation in Serbia was like.

"Many of the people who have registered for a briefing - a panel discussion at the European Policy Centre that has been cancelled for some reason without any explanation at all - we have given them an opportunity to come to our Mission for a discussion, because dialogue is important to us. We believe in dialogue, we believe in freedom of speech, we do not believe in censorship, and we gave those people an opportunity, since the European Policy Centre has cancelled that, to come to our Mission and ask questions, ask whatever they want and get responses, so that, at the end of the day, we get to the reality and the truth about what has been going on in Serbia in the past ten months and about the blockader terror our people have been subjected to," Brnabic said.

She also said Metsola had told her the European Green Party did not like the way Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic had spoken about an MEP.

"But I said that MEPs, too, must understand that it is unfair for them to attend unregistered, illegal gatherings as guests in our country. That MEP is from Denmark, he would not be able to attend such a gathering in Denmark because, in Denmark, an unregistered gathering would not be allowed to take place," she said.
