Vucic: We are examining all options for solution for US sanctions on NIS

NEW YORK - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday Belgrade was working on finding a solution to the issue of looming US sanctions on Serbia's Russian majority-owned oil company NIS but that there was very little interest by the sides involved in the problems Serbia was facing.

Responding to questions from reporters after a series of meetings in New York, Vucic said all his attempts to find a solution for the sanctions, due to take effect on October 1, had hit a wall.

"We are working and examining all options, but when you see that there is small interest by the individual sides in the problems Serbia is facing, what can you do?"

He added that he did not see a solution to the problem right now and urged everyone in Serbia to point to a solution if they saw one.

He said the Russian side was refusing all offers and that, on the other hand, the US would impose the sanctions regardless of any suggestion for a delay.

"What can I do, threaten the Russians or the Americans? We are a small country, so that makes no sense, and I have to ensure oil to the people," he said.

Asked about the issue of US import tariffs, Vucic said he hoped it would be resolved successfully.
