BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic received on Wednesday the credentials of newly-appointed Irish Ambassador to Belgrade Kevin Colgan.
He welcomed a decision by Ireland's government to open an embassy in Belgrade and said it was a clear signal of commitment to further development of relations and practical cooperation between the two countries.
In a post on his buducnostsrbijeav Instagram account, Vucic said he was pleased bilateral relations were good and added that he hoped they would be strengthened further by more intensive political dialogue and closer institutional cooperation.
Welcoming the ambassador, Vucic wished him a successful and substantial tenure in Serbia.
He noted that Serbia was ready to raise bilateral economic cooperation to a higher level, incentivising trade, attracting more investments from Ireland and opening new chapters in the IT and innovations sector, agriculture and the food industry, education, culture and the creative industries.
"Serbia remains firmly committed to EU membership and continued reforms," Vucic stressed.
Thanking Ireland for its support to date, Vucic said Serbia counted on its further engagement, especially ahead of the Irish Council of the EU presidency in 2026.
"I am confident that, through joint efforts, we will bring visible benefits to our citizens and bring Serbia and Ireland even closer to each other," Vucic posted.
