BELGRADE - Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijevic met with EU Ambassador to Belgrade Andreas von Beckerath on Friday.

Welcoming the ambassador, Sofronijevic wished him a successful tenure in Serbia and noted that EU membership remained Serbia's strategic objective.

She said the Serbian government was fully committed to accelerated and consistent implementation of reforms that were a part of the EU agenda, an official statement said.

She informed von Beckerath of the passage of a new law on special conditions for registration of real estate and ownership thereof, which applies the highest international standards, representing another step towards improving legal certainty and transparency in this field, the statement said.

The parties devoted special attention to infrastructure co-financed or financed by the EU, especially projects aimed at modernising road and railway traffic.

They noted that modernisation of a Belgrade-Nis railway line would be continued intensively and that around 600 mln euros in EU grants had been secured for the project.

Sofronijevic and von Beckerath said continued joint work and cooperation would help to deepen Serbia-EU relations and to advance a comprehensive partnership in areas of mutual interest.
