Serbian parliament elects eight out of nine REM Council members

BELGRADE - Serbian MPs elected eight out of nine members of the Council of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) on Wednesday.

Milan Petkovic, a candidate of universities, Milos Garic, a candidate of electronic media outlets, and Stevica Smederevac, a candidate of the protector of citizens, the commissioner for protection of equality and the commissioner for information of public importance and personal data protection, were elected to the Council for a period of two years.

Ira Prodanov Krajisnik, a candidate of cinema, performance and drama artists, Rodoljub Sabic, a candidate of associations dealing with protection of the freedom expression, and Mileva Malesic, a candidate of journalist associations, were elected for a period of four years.

Dubravka Valic Nedeljkovic, a candidate of associations dealing with protection of children, and Snezana Miljkovic, a candidate of churches and religious communities, were elected for a period of six years.

The parliament did not elect a REM Council member put forward by national minority councils.

The candidates were Muhedin Fijuljanin and Ljumturije Ameti.
