Brnabic: We will table amendment enabling takeover of NIS

BELGRADE - Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic said on Tuesday evening an amendment to the budget bill enabling a takeover of Serbia's Russian majority-owned oil company NIS would be tabled to the parliament.

Speaking to Euronews TV, Brnabic said she personally would not support a nationalisation of NIS - which is under US sanctions due to its Russian-majority ownership - but that nothing should lead to living standards and the economy in Serbia being jeopardised.

"I would not support nationalisation because I am an economic liberal," she said, adding that she believed nationalisation was "not the right way because it opens a Pandora's box."

Brnabic said that, "thanks to President Aleksandar Vucic and his personal credibility and connections", Serbia had practically delayed the sanctions several times to give more time to the Russian partners to find a solution.
