Djuric, US Congressman Turner discuss strengthening of Serbia-US political cooperation

WASHINGTON - Serbian FM Marko Djuric met in Washington with US Congressman Michael Turner to discuss bilateral relations between Serbia and the US and further strengthening of political cooperation.

"At the meeting - which follows up on discussions initiated during Congressman Turner’s recent visit to Belgrade - both sides reiterated their support for launching the strategic dialogue between the two countries at the earliest opportunity, noting that regular communication is a key prerequisite for stability and predictability in mutual relations," the Serbian MFA said in a statement.

"The talks also focused on the current situation in the region. Minister Djuric briefed the Congressman on the challenges Belgrade is facing, particularly with regard to the security of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija and the attempts to restrict fundamental political rights, including participation in the electoral process," it said.

Djuric and Turner also reviewed planned activities in the US Congress related to the Western Balkan region.
