BELGRADE - Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, who is on an official visit to Serbia, said on Tuesday Greece's position on Kosovo-Metohija was unchanged and stable.

At a press conference after a meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Sakellaropoulou noted that Greece supported the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue aimed at normalisation of relations and finding a sustainable solution that would maintain stability in the region.

"We support the recent discussions about finding a solution and carrying out an implementation plan and advancing your position in Europe," she said.

Speaking about Serbia's European integration, Sakellaropoulou noted that Greece had always believed Serbia belonged in the European family and added that, during the meeting with Vucic, she had reiterated Greece's stable and firm position on the need for Serbia to join the EU and on support for Serbia's efforts in that direction.

"Our goal is a strengthening of Serbia's political and economic position," Sakellaropoulou said.

She noted that the meeting had confirmed the exceptional Greece-Serbia relations at all levels, which she said had been stable and undisturbed for 150 years now and demonstrated significant cultural, political and historical ties, as well as the friendship connecting the two peoples.

"The strategic character attained by Greece-Serbia relations is reflected in a joint declaration on strategic partnership, especially in energy, culture, tourism and defence. There is a mutual wish to expedite the implementation of the declaration to ensure mutual well-being of our countries and the wider Balkan region," Sakellaropoulou said.
