Pantic Pilja thanks Hungary for supporting Serbia in CoE

BELGRADE - Serbia's parliamentary delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), headed by Biljana Pantic Pilja, met on Wednesday with the chairman of the Hungarian parliament's foreign affairs committee Zsolt Nemeth, who is on an official visit to the National Assembly of Serbia.

At the meeting, the parties said the two countries needed to cherish their overall bilateral relations and develop friendly cooperation.

Thanking Hungary for its continued support for Serbia and for its positions in the Council of Europe, Pantic Pilja said the two countries had exceptional relations, above all, thanks to the friendship and mutual understanding between the two leaders, Aleksandar Vucic and Viktor Orban.

She noted that the friendship was constantly deepened by the Serbian and Hungarian delegations to the PACE.

Pantic Pilja informed a Hungarian parliamentary delegation of a recent visit by co-rapporteurs of the PACE Monitoring Committee and said she hoped Serbia would receive a report and progress to the post-monitoring phase.

The members of the Serbian delegation - Aleksandar Mirkovic, Dunja Simonovic Bratic, Vladimir Djordjevic and Elvira Kovac - exchanged views with Nemeth and agreed on the significance of friendship and mutual support between Serbia and Hungary amid the current complex geopolitical circumstances in Europe and globally.

The parties agreed that Serbia and Hungary were countries conducting sovereign policies in the interest of their citizens and that they were under huge pressure as a result.

That is why it is important to cherish overall bilateral relations and develop friendly cooperation in various activities concerning global security, they said.
