Vucic: Elections due by year's end, possibly by St Vitus's Day

BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced on Tuesday evening elections in the country would be held by the end of the year, possibly as early as by St Vitus's Day - June 28.

Speaking to Informer TV, Vucic said the outcome of Sunday's local elections in ten self-government units across Serbia showed that student-led electoral lists had had no chance of winning.

"Their representatives did not even announce the electoral results from a single municipality in which they ran," Vucic said.

"Everything will be peaceful, everything will be good, they have no chance. The fact someone is furious is an expression of complete powerlessness and desperation. Secondly, as far as candidacies are concerned, elections will be called by the end of the year, they may even be held by St Vitus's Day. They wanted them - we will see when those elections will take place. What the people say is how it will be. Vox populi, vox dei," he said.
