BELGRADE - PM Djuro Macut said on Tuesday Serbian ministries and his government maintained constant communication with the European Commission and noted that Serbia was delivering on its commitments under the EU Growth Plan.
Addressing MPs at a parliament session, Macut said allegations of a suspension of EU funds for Serbia were "a completely irrelevant moment that is being set as a possibility."
"I cannot accept a statement that something will be halted because of a gross violation of any rights in any segment of our society, above all, in education. The intensity of the incidents that are occurring is too low for something to be abolished," he said.
The EU accession process takes some time and Serbia needs to pass a large number of regulations and laws in the meantime, he said, adding that alignment with EU standards was inevitable on the path to the union.
"The Serbian government - both the government and the ministries - maintains constant communication with the European Commission, there is a constant exchange that also involves drafts of certain legislative solutions, but the laws themselves are submitted for verification before they are passed in this distinguished House," Macut said.
