BELGRADE - Serbian FM Marko Djuric said on Wednesday, the 27th anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1244, that it was important to "remind everyone today that international law cannot be a matter of choice or political convenience."
"The persistent violation of this resolution has seriously undermined the rights of our citizens living in the Autonomous Province of Kosovo-Metohija, as well as those of the Republic of Serbia as a whole," Djuric posted on X.
"It is especially important to remind everyone today that international law cannot be a matter of choice or political convenience.
When binding decisions of the UN Security Council are respected selectively, it not only weakens Serbia's position but also erodes trust in the entire international order. A law that does not apply equally to all ceases to be law.
By defending its position, Serbia defends universal values," he concluded.
The UN Security Council adopted the resolution on June 10, 1999, and the NATO aggression on the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which Serbia was a part of at the time, ended on the same day.
