Gasic, Beckerath discuss Serbia-EU defence cooperation

BELGRADE - Serbian Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic met with the head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Andreas von Beckerath on Tuesday to discuss defence cooperation, regional security and further advancement of partnership relations.

"Gasic emphasised that Serbia is determined to continue to contribute to strengthening its own, regional and global security, in cooperation with other countries and international organisations," a government statement said.

"He emphasised that this strategic commitment is realised through participation in missions and operations under the auspices of the European Union, thereby contributing to the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy.

The Minister stated that Serbia has raised the level of alignment with the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union, which is now the highest since 2014," it said.

Von Beckerath said the high level of alignment was a good foundation for further advancement of cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
