Vucic extends condolences to families of Venezuela quake victims

BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Thursday extended condolences to the families of the victims of deadly earthquakes in Venezuela.

"It was with deep sadness that I received the news of the devastating earthquake that struck Venezuela. On my own behalf and on behalf of the citizens of Serbia, I extend my sincere condolences to the families of the victims, the people of Venezuela, and President Delcy Rodriguez. I also wish all those who were injured a swift and full recovery," Vucic posted on X.

"As we confront the devastating consequences of natural disasters, we are reminded of the immense power and unpredictability of nature, but also of the strength of human solidarity in the effort to save every life.

To the rescue teams and all those engaged in providing assistance, I wish courage and success in their efforts to protect lives and help those in need. Serbia stands ready to provide any necessary assistance it can to the friendly people of Venezuela," he added.

Serbian PM Djuro Macut has also extended condolences to Rodriguez.

According to initial reports, 32 people have been killed and more than 700 others injured in two devastating 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes in Venezuela.

No reports of Serbian nationals being injured or killed in Venezuela quakes - embassy

CARACAS - The Serbian embassy in Caracas said on Thursday there were no reports of Serbian nationals or holders of dual citizenships being killed or injured in devastating earthquakes that have hit Venezuela.
According to information available to the embassy, everyone it has established contact with is safe and no problems requiring consular intervention have been reported.

In a statement, the embassy said it was watching developments closely and maintaining regular communication with Serbian nationals and people of Serbian descent living in Venezuela.

It added that, since Venezuela was not a frequent tourist destination for Serbians, not many Serbian nationals were in the country.

"The embassy is also in contact with holders of dual citizenships and Venezuelan nationals of Serbian descent, who have confirmed they are well," it said.

All employees of the Serbian embassy in Caracas are safe and the embassy building has sustained no damage in the earthquakes.

According to the latest reports, at least 164 people have been killed and nearly 1,000 others injured in two devastating 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes in Venezuela.
