STRASBOURG - The European Parliament (EP) adopted on Wednesday a resolution on Serbia for 2025, prepared by its special rapporteur for Serbia, Tonino Picula.

The resolution was adopted with 468 votes in favour, 116 votes against and 79 abstentions.

Before the vote, Austrian MEP Helmut Brandstatter proposed an amendment over Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's hint that he might be a candidate for PM, but the amendment was rejected.

Brandstatter argued that the potential move was modelled on "the Medvedev-Putin system."

Levying criticism against Serbia across all areas, Picula's report said Serbia had achieved a certain level of preparedness by implementing some European Commission recommendations but that its fundamental commitments, relating to tackling the remaining obstacles, remained mostly unfulfilled.

The adopted resolution is non-binding.
