BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met on Thursday with representatives of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Office in Serbia and attended the signing of a two-year agreement on cooperation for 2026-2027 that will contribute to advancement of health protection, strengthening of institutions and ensuring higher-quality, more accessible health care services to all Serbian citizens.
WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Henri P Kluge joined the meeting via a video link.
"An important and good discussion with WHO Regional Director for Europe Dr Hans Henri Kluge and WHO Serbia representatives about continued WHO support for further strengthening of Serbia's health care system, improvement of medicine availability and possibilities for more favourable prices of pharmaceutical products, as well as about future challenges in the field of global health," Vucic posted on Instagram.
He added that they had also exchanged views on further alignment of the Serbian health care system with European standards as part of Serbia's EU accession process, including measures aimed at public health protection and reduction of tobacco use.
"I particularly thanked Dr Kluge for the continued support the WHO is providing to Serbia. The signing of a Two-Year Agreement on Cooperation for the period of 2026-2027 represents a confirmation of a strong partnership and a joint commitment to advancement of health protection, strengthening of institutions and ensuring higher-quality, more accessible health care services to all our citizens," Vucic wrote in the post.
He added that Serbia remained committed to investing in health care and to cooperation with international partners.
"Only a strong, modern health care system can respond to the challenges of the future and preserve what is the most important - the health of our citizens," Vucic concluded.
