Macut, Iipumbu discuss Serbia-Namibia cooperation

BELGRADE - Serbian PM Djuro Macut met on Thursday in Belgrade with Namibian Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security Lucia Iipumbu to discuss deepening the cooperation with the friendly country.

"Macut said that Serbia is committed to further enhancing cooperation with Namibia, noting that the country has long been a close friend and an important partner dating back to the period of the Non-Aligned Movement.

He emphasised that Serbia remains committed to strengthening cooperation with all African countries with which it shares long-standing friendly relations and, to that end, is working to reinforce political, economic, educational, cultural and other ties," the Serbian government said in a statement.

"The Prime Minister expressed confidence that today’s meeting, together with yesterday’s signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries’ interior ministries, will provide a solid foundation for intensifying political dialogue and expanding cooperation into other areas.

According to him, Serbia greatly appreciates the understanding and support of the Republic of Namibia with regard to preserving its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as Namibia’s support for Serbia’s interests in other international organisations.

Macut pointed out that there is considerable potential to strengthen economic cooperation through further expansion of bilateral trade, as well as cooperation in other fields such as agriculture and education, noting that Serbia is proud of the World in Serbia project, which has also attracted strong interest from students from Namibia.

Iipumbu stressed that Namibia wishes to renew the ties established during the period of the Non-Aligned Movement and that the purpose of her visit to Serbia is to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries," the statement said.
