Vucic receives farewell visit from Spanish ambassador

BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Thursday received a farewell visit from Spanish Ambassador to Belgrade Juan Jose Sanz Aparicio and noted that Serbia highly appreciated its friendly relations with the Kingdom of Spain, characterised by sincere and unequivocal mutual support on issues of vital national interest to both countries.

"A cordial farewell meeting with Ambassador Juan Jose Sanz Aparicio, whom I thanked for his dedicated work, his personal contribution to advancement of the relations between our countries and for his advocacy of strengthening the cooperation in many areas of mutual interest," Vucic posted on Instagram.

He expressed special gratitude to Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez for his personal engagement towards strengthening the friendship between the two countries, as well as to Spain for its consistent and principled support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia and for Serbia's EU path.

"I reiterated that we consider Spain as one of our most significant partners in the EU and I expressed the hope that, in the coming period, we will have the honour of welcoming, in Belgrade, PM Sanchez and His Majesty the King Felipe VI, whose visits would lend a strong impetus to further advancement of our friendly relations," Vucic said.

He added that they had discussed opportunities for expansion of economic cooperation, as well as Spain's participation in EXPO 2027 Belgrade.

"I wished the ambassador much success in his further diplomatic career, and I expressed a desire that his path may bring him back to Serbia, where he will always have sincere friends," Vucic wrote in the post.
