Djuric, Rogers discuss strengthening of Serbia-US relations

NEW YORK - Serbian caretaker FM Marko Djuric met on Thursday in New York with US Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Sarah B Rogers to discuss strengthening of Serbia-US relations.

Special attention was devoted to US participation in EXPO 2027 Belgrade.

Djuric noted that Serbia attached great significance to US participation in the event and that EXPO 2027 was a great opportunity to forge further ties between the two countries, the Serbian MFA said in a statement.

Djuric said EXPO 2027 could lend an additional impetus to a high-level US visit to Serbia and to stepping up political and economic contacts between the two countries.

The parties also discussed an important anniversary in the history of Serbia-US relations as 2027 will mark 145 years since the entry into force of a bilateral Trade Agreement and Consular Convention, making next year even more symbolic and significant.

In light of current developments, Djuric noted that Serbia would approach in a systematic manner the further development of strategic dialogue with the US and the strengthening of an institutional framework that would enable making agreed priorities concrete and encourage further implementation of joint initiatives.
