BELGRADE - In a telephone call with Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic congratulated the Turkish leader on a recent election win and wished him success with leading his country on the path of development during his new presidential term.
Vucic noted that Turkey was an extremely important partner to Serbia, not only bilaterally, but also in the international political arena, Vucic's presidential office said in a statement.
Erdogan inquired about the situation in Kosovo-Metohija and Vucic presented a timeline of events that have led to an escalation of violence against the Serb community there.
He also asked Erdogan to use his country's reputation and influence to help maintain peace and establish stability in the region.
"I hope that, besides existing projects, we will be working together on new endeavours that will accelerate the strong development of the entire region, bring people closer and connect economies," Vucic said.
Vucic invited Erdogan to visit Serbia.
