BRUSSELS - European Commission (EC) spokesperson Peter Stano said on Friday the EC was still analysing Pristina's decision to make the euro the only legal currency for payment transactions.
"We are still analysing and seeking clarification about the decision, the reasons, motivations and possible implications but, in general, Kosovo and Serbia are expected to avoid uncoordinated actions which are not conducive to the normalisation of the relations and that could have an impact – a rather negative impact – on stability on the ground," Stano said at a Brussels press briefing when asked to comment on the decision.
"We would really urge, and we call on, both sides to address this topic in the framework of the EU-facilitated dialogue," he added.
Belgrade has warned that Pristina's decision to ban all currencies that preceded the euro from February 1 would halt payments of salaries and pensions in Serbian dinars.
