BELGRADE - We will continue to fight for our people in Kosovo-Metohija and we will never leave them in the lurch, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday, noting that, under the UN Charter and the Serbian Constitution, Kosovo-Metohija was - and always would be - a part of Serbia.
"We will fight for our people and for normal life in Kosovo-Metohija and we will succeed in ensuring it in every possible way," Vucic wrote in an Instagram post that contained an excerpt from his public address from the Palace of Serbia in Belgrade this afternoon.
He noted that those who were deliberately subjecting Kosovo-Metohija Serbs to unbearable living conditions were unable to understand that dialogue was important because the so-called Kosovo was not an internationally recognised state.
"That dialogue should lead to normalisation of relations, and not to ethnic cleansing of the Serb population in Kosovo-Metohija."
He added that dialogue with international partners on this issue was crucial.
"We believe they will keep their word and try to ensure the fundamental rights of the Serb population, and we will take all measures to ensure our population in Kosovo-Metohija receives its incomes in difficult, almost impossible conditions. We will be finding solutions, so our people need not worry," he wrote, adding that Serbia would strive to preserve peace and work on accelerated economic development.
