BELGRADE - Serbian Justice Minister Maja Popovic said on Wednesday the demands and conditions set out by the Proglas initiative for new elections aimed to destabilise the state authorities and were an attempt to delegitimise and cast a shadow on the electoral process through selective interpretation of legal norms even though the entire process had been conducted and completed in line with Serbia's Constitution and its laws.
In a statement, Popovic noted that the legal nature of Proglas demands and conditions revealed that they were exclusively aimed at delegitimising an electoral process that had already been completed even though there were no grounds for such demands and conditions in the positive legislation of the Republic of Serbia.
She also said objections regarding the accuracy of the unified electoral roll reflected a lack of knowledge about how it was being managed and kept up to date.
Popovic added that the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government was indeed responsible for managing it but was not doing so directly as that was the responsibility of municipal and city administrations, competent for keeping the electoral roll up to date for their respective territories.
