BELGRADE - Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic said on Thursday a 2024-2030 AI Development Strategy was one of the most important strategic documents for Serbia at this time.
At a public debate on the proposed strategy, held in the Serbian parliament building, Brnabic said the document was important not only for the economy and business, but for all aspects of society - education, the energy sector, environmental protection and medicine, and noted that artificial intelligence was the key topic today.
She noted that, in 2019, Serbia had become the first country in southeastern Europe to adopt an AI development strategy until 2025.
Brnabic said a series of activities for various institutions had been conducted based on the strategy, leading to Serbia becoming one of the only 29 countries in the world that were members of the Global Partnership for AI.
She said Serbia currently chaired the partnership and that the Serbian government would in December host a world conference on AI as part of the initiative.
Brnabic said that, under the previous strategy, Serbia had also established the Novi Sad-based Institute for AI in 2021.
"Serbia got its first national AI platform, a supercomputer. Access to, and use, of that supercomputer is granted completely free of charge to universities, scientific institutes, faculties and local startups at science and technology parks," she said.
