Court awards damages to families of Novi Sad railway station tragedy victims

NOVI SAD - The Higher Court in Novi Sad has ordered the Railway Infrastructure of Serbia joint stock company and the Republic of Serbia to jointly pay a total of 19.5 mln dinars (approx. 166,455 euros) in immaterial damages to the families of four people killed in the November 1 overhang collapse at the Novi Sad railway station.

The court ruled that the defendants shall pay 5 mln dinars to claimants B R, B P and I R and 4.5 mln dinars to claimant M R plus interest on arrears and court fees, an official statement said on Friday.

The ruling may be appealed before the Appeals Court in Novi Sad.

Sixteen people were killed in the tragedy and one person was seriously injured.
