BELGRADE - Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali said Tuesday Russian President Vladimir Putin's upcoming visit to Serbia would be very important for the country and its economy.

"I think it will be his 15th meeting with our president, which just goes to show what the intensity of cooperation and the mutual relationship are like. Russia is a very significant foreign trade partner for us and, above all, the discussions will focus on the future and on safe gas supplies," Mali told Happy TV.

Gas supplies are a strategic issue for Serbia and they are the driving force of our new factories and if we bolster the economy and boost economic growth we will need much larger quantities of gas, he said.

Around 20 significant agreements, including on the railways, will be signed during Putin's visit, the Ministry of Finance quoted Mali as saying.

Agreements on education and other areas will also be inked, he said.
