BELGRADE - The Himalayan state of Nepal has officially confirmed its participation in EXPO 2027 in Belgrade, the first international expo to be held in the Western Balkans, under the theme of Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All.

Cherishing traditionally close and cordial relations since 1959, Serbia and Nepal share the same views on numerous international affairs and have exchanged visits by state officials, and EXPO 2027 is an excellent opportunity to strengthen those relations further, EXPO 2027 Ltd said in a statement.

"We very much look forward to Nepal bringing the mountain spirit of the Himalayas to the heart of Europe and to Serbia being the country where the entire world will get to know its rich culture. We are happy that the two countries will strengthen their relations at EXPO 2027 Belgrade, and we invite other Asian countries that have still not confirmed their participation to do so as soon as possible so that we can showcase the world's largest continent in the most beautiful light in 2027," EXPO 2027 Ltd Director Dusan Borovcanin said.

After making its debut at the 1970 Expo in Osaka, Japan - where it is currently taking part in EXPO 2025 - Nepal has become a regular participant of world and specialised expos and joined the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in 2007.

EXPO 2027, to take place in Belgrade from May 15 to August 15, 2027, is expected to feature more than 120 countries and attract over four million visitors.
