BELGRADE - Serbian Deputy PM and Minister of Economy Adrijana Mesarovic said on Wednesday a Serbia-China (Jiangsu) Economic and Trade Conference in Belgrade was an important step in further deepening of economic and trade cooperation between Serbia and Jiangsu, one of China's most developed and most innovative provinces.

"Serbia and China cherish a relationship that reaches beyond traditional economic frameworks. It is a friendship based on mutual respect, trust and long-term vision of joint progress. Within that framework, the cooperation with the Jiangsu province carries special weight as it connects Serbia's orientation towards innovation and sustainable development with China's experience in industrial transformation, digitalisation and green economy," Mesarovic said at the conference, also attended by a Chinese Communist Party delegation from Jiangsu.

She said Jiangsu had a population of more than 85 million and a GDP of over 1.9 bln dollars - roughly equivalent to those of Italy or South Korea.

She added that Jiangsu was China's leader in manufacture of electronic equipment, as well as in renewables, biotech and intelligent production, with exports exceeding 700 bln dollars a year.

"On the other hand, Serbia is registering stable GDP growth with a record inflow of FDI. Serbia's exports to China have tripled in the past three years, indicating a strong trend of ties being forged between the markets and growing interest among Serbian companies in Eastern markets," Mesarovic noted.

She said Serbia was also one of the regional leaders when it comes to growth of investments in green and digital transition.

"Today, Serbia represents a dependable and stable partner for investments. With FTAs covering a population of more than 2.5 billion people, a favourable geographic position and a skilled workforce, we are opening up new opportunities for Chinese companies to position themselves as key actors in the European market," Mesarovic noted.
