BELGRADE - Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali said on Monday works to build the EXPO 2027 complex were proceeding as planned and that any deviations from the schedule were tackled in a timely manner.
"We kicked off the working week with a meeting at the Surcin construction site to see for ourselves the progress of works to build the EXPO complex, the national football stadium, 1,500 flats and the necessary accompanying infrastructure," Mali wrote in an Instagram post.
He added that it had been his first meeting at the EXPO construction site after last week's visit to EXPO 2025 in Osaka, Japan.
"I had the opportunity to see leading-edge technologies and achievements from around the world and to speak with Japanese investors and assess in person the scale of that global event, which made Japan the global hub this year," Mali noted.
He added that he was proud Serbia, too, would become the global hub in 2027 and that this was confirmed by the fact 116 countries and international organisations were already confirmed to take part in EXPO 2027 Belgrade.
"With a lot of work and effort, we continue the preparations for the EXPO, which is our biggest development opportunity and an opportunity for further growth of our economy, as well as for further improvement of the Serbian citizens' quality of life," Mali posted.
