BELGRADE - Serbia has completed its first preliminary technical study on nuclear power applications, which analyses the various technologies available on the market, as well as their technical and commercial maturity, Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said on Monday.
The minister said the available options included both traditional nuclear power plants and small modular reactors.
"One of the technologies has still not been approved technically and technologically - small nuclear reactors, which are still in development. There are commercial nuclear power plants, which offer the economy of volume, while small modular reactors offer flexibility, modularity and lower investment costs," Djedovic Handanovic told the RTS.
She also said the study demonstrated there was space for integrating nuclear energy into the power transmission system, which she noted would become possible in around 15 to 20 years.
