BELGRADE - A report that the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) faces "almost certain" sanctions over Dina card payments at NIS petrol stations represents unfounded spreading of panic, the central bank said on Thursday.
NIS, Serbia's Russian-majority owned oil company, is under US sanctions.
The NBS was responding to a report by the Nova internet news portal.
"Dina card is a payment instrument in domestic payment operations in the same way as the dinar, i. e. cash and instant payments.
The matter concerning NIS is being handled at the highest government level, and the public will be timely informed once concrete solutions are reached," the central bank said in a statement.
