PANCEVO - The Pancevo oil refinery has initiated start-up activities that will enable a re-establishment of commercial operation of its production facilities, and the first delivery of oil derivatives from the refinery is expected on January 27, the Serbian oil company NIS announced on Monday.

"Start-up activities take place according to the established schedule, in accordance with the company’s internal procedures and in compliance with the highest environmental standards and rules of occupational safety and health," it said in a statement.

"Bearing in mind the imported quantities of crude oil, as well as crude oil produced on domestic oil fields, it is planned that the refinery will operate throughout February, while further work will be in line with the decisions on approving the company’s operational activities. Renewal of production at the Pancevo oil Refinery will further improve the energy stability of the Republic of Serbia and preserve a stable supply of the domestic market with petroleum products," it said in a statement.

"The period of suspension of production in the refinery was also used to perform overhaul activities, the most significant of which are the replacement of the catalyst on the DHT reactor and the overhaul of the S-4700 plant.

The Pancevo Oil Refinery is also crucial for the operation of HIP-Petrohemija, whose start-up depends on the availability of raw materials for processing, as well as long-term decisions related to the approval of NIS operational activities.

On December 31 2025, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Department of the Treasury issued a special license that allows the company to conduct operational activities until January 23 of the current year," it also said.

NIS is under US sanctions due to its Russian majority ownership.
