DUBAI - Serbian First Deputy PM and Finance Minister Sinisa Mali said on Wednesday in Dubai, where he is attending the World Governments Summit, that Bhutan had confirmed its participation in EXPO 2027 Belgrade, becoming the 135th country to do so.

"Not only will it be the biggest event in the world in that year, but it will also be the biggest-ever specialised EXPO, and in the coming days and weeks, we will, of course, continue to work on an even higher number of countries coming to what is the most significant and the biggest event for us," Mali said.

He said Bhutan's participation in EXPO 2027 had been confirmed at his meeting with the country's PM.

Mali said he had also met with Director General of Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism Helal Saeed Almarri, who is also the founder of GITEX, one of the world's top technology fairs.

GITEX will be featured at EXPO 2027.

"Last year, we signed an agreement with GITEX, and from 2027, their global events - which are among the biggest in the world, with more than 200,000 participants and over 6,000 of the biggest and the most significant tech companies in the world - will also be held in Belgrade," Mali said.

He noted that he had also met with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and that Serbia-UAE relations had never been better.

"We have a strategic partnership in a large number of fields and we will continue to cherish that friendship in such a manner," Mali said.
