ST PETERSBURG - Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller, Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said on Thursday in St Petersburg an extension of gas supplies to Serbia by three more months beyond June 30 had been confirmed at the meeting.

"I had a very good meeting with Mr Miller, the Gazprom top executive, at which we discussed a continuation of cooperation on secure gas supplies to Serbia, and further gas supplies - an extension by three more months beyond June 30 - was confirmed. That is important for our country, for our citizens, our economy, because those are stable, exceptionally favourably priced supplies, but also because of flexibility and their quantity," Djedovic Handanovic said.

She added that they had also discussed works to expand a Banatski dvor underground gas storage, whose capacity will be increased from 450 to 750 cubic metres.

"A very important topic for us is also (the oil company) NIS and the problems we have been facing for 18 months now," the minister said.

Since October 9, 2025, NIS has been under US sanctions due to its Russian-majority ownership.

Djedovic Handanovic said the sanctions on NIS were not a consequence of any actions by Serbia and that Serbians must not suffer as a result of the sanctions.

"A sustainable solution that has to be acceptable to the US administration must be found," Djedovic Handanovic said.
