BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met with BYD CEO Stella Li in Belgrade on Friday to discuss Serbia's positioning in a dynamic time for the European and global automotive industry and invited the Chinese automaker, the world's leading manufacturer of electric cars, to take part in EXPO 2027 Belgrade and present its innovations to a wide international audience.
In an Instagram post, Vucic wrote that the discussion with Li had been "excellent."
"I expressed our country's interest in assuming an important spot on the map of further development of BYD's production network in Europe, in the belief that, with its resources, position and industrial potential, Serbia can be a key partner in that chain," Vucic added.
He noted that, at an accelerated pace, Serbia was also working on strengthening its position in the global hierarchy of green and tech mobility, and noted that even closer cooperation with BYD, including a transfer of knowledge and applications of its advanced technologies, could greatly contribute to achieving that ambitious goal.
"I took the opportunity to invite the esteemed guests to take part in EXPO 2027, which will be a unique opportunity for them to showcase their innovations to a wide international audience, as well as a special honour to our country," Vucic noted.
He added that, as a gift, he had received a miniature replica of the world's fastest car, which has a top speed of 496 kph.
"I asked the esteemed guest if it is a car or a plane. I was sincerely happy to receive that beautiful gift, a replica of a BYD electric car that best symbolises everything we talked about. This little car will always encourage us to keep making our dreams come true, and remind us of the shared vision we are building," Vucic posted on the buducnostsrbijeav Instagram profile.
