BELGRADE - Serbian First Deputy PM and Finance Minister Sinisa Mali and Minister of Internal and External Trade Jagoda Lazarevic, who is also Serbia's EXPO 2027 commissioner, met on Thursday with Minister of Tourism of the Republic of San Marino Federico Pedini Amati to discuss the country’s potential participation in the upcoming EXPO, to be held in Belgrade next year.
"The delegation from San Marino, which also included Director of the Tourism Department Filippo Francini and Special Secretary Alan Gasperoni, was presented with the potential of EXPO 2027, its plans and the ways in which San Marino can showcase itself to the world while also becoming better acquainted with Serbia," a government statement said.
"Mali stated that Serbia is building an entirely new city in Belgrade for the purposes of EXPO, adding that 142 countries and international organisations have so far confirmed their participation in the event.
The interlocutors expressed confidence that EXPO 2027 will provide an opportunity to further strengthen international partnerships and present innovative solutions that contribute to sustainable development and connect people around the world," it said.
"We would look forward to San Marino's participation and continued successful cooperation in the years to come," Mali said.
Pedini Amati said getting to host EXPO 2027 was an exceptional achievement for Serbia and expressed the hope San Marino would accept an offer to participate in the event.
The meeting was also attended by Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) Secretary General Dimitri Kerkentzes.
