BELGRADE - Air Serbia has carried more than one million passengers in 2023 as of this morning, the national airline said on Monday.

By comparison, in 2022, the figure was only reached on July 8, or two months later, it said in a statement.

In the pre-pandemic year of 2019 - its most successful year to date - the Serbian national airline reached the number of one million passengers on June 25, or a month and a half later compared to this year.

"Bearing in mind the existing trends, Air Serbia expects to exceed the figure of three and a half million passengers carried in 2023," it said.

"We knew this outcome was outstanding when we registered our 500,000th passenger in 2023 in mid- March, and we thought that more successes would come fast. Just two months later, we are breaking our records again. For the first time since we have been operating under the name of Air Serbia, we already handled one million passengers in May. We have reasons to be satisfied with outstanding monthly results, ten consecutive record months in terms of the number of flights and passengers carried and a profitable first quarter of 2023. The achieved results motivate us to be even better and more efficient in the coming period," said Air Serbia CEO Jiri Marek.

The national airline said it would be flying to more than 80 destinations worldwide this summer.

"In addition to the national Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade, the company also flies from the Nis Constantine the Great Airport and the Morava international airport near Kraljevo. Nearly half, or 49 pct, of all passengers who flew from Belgrade airport to their final destinations in Q1 2023 did so on an Air Serbia flight," the company said.
