BELGRADE - The Serbian government stripped outgoing Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesic of his immunity on Friday, November 22, a government source confirmed to Tanjug at the weekend.
Along with 11 other people, Vesic was arrested on November 21 over a November 1 accident at the Novi Sad railway station, where an overhang collapse killed 15 people, seriously injuring two others.
The Higher Court in Novi Sad placed Vesic and former Serbian Railway Infrastructure Director Nebojsa Surlan in 30-day custody on November 23, while outgoing Serbian Railway Infrastructure Acting Director Jelena Tanaskovic and Assistant Minister of Transport for Railway Transport Anita Dimovski are under electronically supervised house arrest.
They are suspected of a serious crime against general safety in conjunction with the criminal offence of causing general danger.
Vesic and Tanaskovic resigned in the wake of the accident.
