BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday evening he was concerned by US sanctions to be introduced against Serbia's majority Russian-owned oil company NIS around January 1 as the move had been officially confirmed.
"I have already said it has been officially confirmed - they are just waiting for the moment to come, it will happen around January 1," Vucic said on an RTS talk show.
He said Serbia was waiting to see what was in the document on sanctions after Croatia, too, had opposed the move as its JANAF oil pipeline could cease to exist in two years as a result.
Today, JANAF exists thanks to Serbia, Vucic noted.
Asked to comment on claims the NIS was allegedly helping Russia's war effort in Ukraine, Vucic responded:
"That, of course, is not quite realistic, but it is a logical explanation by the American side."
