Vucevic: I am ready to meet with Spajic in Belgrade or Podgorica

MOJKOVAC - Serbian PM Milos Vucevic said on Wednesday in Mojkovac, Montenegro, he was ready to meet with Montenegrin counterpart Milojko Spajic in Belgrade or Podgorica.

Speaking to reporters after laying a wreath at a memorial to the heroes of the 1916 Battle of Mojkovac, Vucevic said he was honoured to be representing Serbia on the 109th anniversary of the battle and added that he did not believe it was irrelevant for a Serbian PM to visit Mojkovac.

He noted that he had also visited Pljevlja, Montenegro, last year and that he had been received very well.

He said he had spoken with Spajic by phone on Tuesday and noted that he had also exchanged messages with Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic and Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandic following the recent tragedy at Cetinje, Montenegro.

Vucevic said the Montenegrin officials had contacted him after the Novi Sad tragedy.

"I am ready to meet with Mr Spajic, whenever and wherever that is necessary, in Podgorica or in Belgrade. I think it is more natural that we see each other either in Podgorica or in Belgrade than in some European metropolises where we meet more often, unfortunately. Mr Spajic is welcome in Serbia, I look forward to future meetings and joint work," Vucevic said.

He also said Serbia-Montenegro relations were good.

"I believe they can and must be better. Many things are connecting us - close family ties, history, culture and spirituality," Vucevic added.

He said Serbia and Montenegro also had economic ties and shared the destiny of the Western Balkans.

"I think we have a common interest in peace and stability in the territory of what is today referred to as the Western Balkans," Vucevic said.

He also noted he believed Serbia and Montenegro were on a common path to the EU and that that was in the interest of the EU, too.
