BRATISLAVA - In a phone call with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Slovak PM Robert Fico expressed support to Vucic as a legitimate representative of a "sovereign, peaceful and proud country."
"I confirmed that I will respect all decisions his country chooses to make amid a complex and unpredictable international situation," Fico wrote in an Instagram post.
He noted that, "in Slovakia, similarly to Serbia", there were attempts to misuse the streets to annul the results of free, democratic elections.
"In Slovakia, protests are regularly staged by various strange personalities, often associated with Maidans in Ukraine or Georgia. Every week, reasons and sheer lies are made up to stage anti-government protests, and the aggressiveness of opposition and anti-government media escalates. The only answer to attempts to topple the legitimate Slovak authorities through public misuses and spreading of lies is to stand firmly by the principles of democracy and the results of free elections," Fico wrote in the post.
He added that he looked forward to meeting with his "friend Vucic" and to deepening the friendly Serbian-Slovak ties.
