BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday cooperation with Cyprus in trade and other areas needed to be boosted, and thanked Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides for his country's respect for the territorial integrity of Serbia.
At a meeting with Christodoulides, who is visiting Serbia, Vucic said the figures were "quite good" but that something needed to be done about trade and cooperation in culture and innovation, military cooperation and other areas.
He thanked Cyprus for supporting the territorial integrity of Serbia and for respecting the UN Charter and UN resolutions.
"That is not always the case, even in the most developed European countries - the Serbs are grateful to you. You can always count on our support for your territorial integrity. We consider your people a brotherly people and we will do everything we can to work on the rational part of our cooperation, to invest efforts to encourage trade and to bring more tourists from Cyprus to Serbia, and vice versa," Vucic said.
Noting that Cyprus would take over the EU presidency on January 1, 2026, Vucic said he was interested in hearing Christodoulides's advice regarding Serbia's EU accession path.
He thanked Cyprus for its strong support for Serbia's European integration and expressed gratitude to Christodoulides for respecting the principles of international public law.
