BELGRADE - Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) leader Milos Vucevic said on Monday the new government would have full support from the SNS as long as it conducted the policy set out in PM Djuro Macut's programme, backed by the ruling coalition in the parliament.
In an appearance on K1 TV, Vucevic said the SNS had decided to back a non-partisan figure for PM after making the assessment that that was the best solution for Serbia.
"Not the best solution for the SNS in terms of the capacities we have as a party, but in terms of understanding the circumstances in our society, and in terms of the fact that we needed a change at the government's helm, a change within the government itself - there are many new ministers, about 40 per cent of the government are new people, and there are certain repositionings within the government when it comes to the ministries. The PM is someone who also brings a new kind of energy and new optimism," Vucevic said.
People in the SNS must understand that all that has been going on in the past six months calls for internal reforms within the party as well, he added.
