BELGRADE - Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic said on Tuesday University of Belgrade Rector Vladan Djokic had signed up to being on a student electoral list for early parliamentary elections demanded by student protesters.

"By doing so, Djokic has demonstrated how right Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic was in saying as early as on December 11 last year that all the blockaders are doing is just politics," Brnabic posted on X.

With his signature, Djokic confirmed that the entire country has been terrorised by him and some university deans and professors, and that they have misused the autonomy of the university in order to seize power, Brnabic said.

"For that purpose, they took advantage of all students - those who are blocking universities as well as those who want to study - and, through purely political ambitions, destroyed a university someone built 217 years ago," Brnabic added.

"I now expect that we will see that same signature on a paper stating his (Djokic's) irrevocable resignation from the post of University of Belgrade rector because everything is finally crystal clear now," Brnabic noted.

She reminded Djokic of Article 43, Paragraph 10 of the Law on Higher Education, under which organisation or activities based on political, party or religious affiliation are not permitted at a higher education institution.

"Or do you think, rector, that you are above the law, the National Assembly and the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia? Then say that to all our citizens," Brnabic wrote in the post, which also included a screenshot of Djokic's written and signed statement of consent to being included in the electoral list as a candidate of the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law.
